Gyotaku Painting with Poulsbo Historical Society & Sea Discovery Center

Poulsbo Historical Society is teaming up with the Sea Discovery Center to bring a hands‑on art experience to young festival‑goers. Join us in the Sea Discovery Center classroom for Gyotaku painting, the traditional Japanese art of fish printing.

And don’t worry—no real fish are used. We’re printing with silicone fish, so kids can enjoy all the creativity without the fish smell. It’s colorful, educational, and a perfect way to spark curiosity about the sea.

Come make a masterpiece and take home a little piece of Liberty Bay.

Vessel Tours at the Liberty Bay Festival

This year’s reimagined Liberty Bay Festival brings more historic ships to Poulsbo than ever before—and many of them will be open for special vessel tours throughout the weekend. Guests can step aboard a variety of unique boats, each hosted by the organizations that care for them.

Visitors can explore:

  • Historic wooden vessels with deep Northwest stories
  • Working boats that showcase maritime craft and seamanship
  • Community‑supported ships offering educational insight into life on the water

Each vessel’s tour schedule and ticket pricing is set by the organization hosting that boat. Some tours are free, while others require a paid ticket to support preservation and programming.

It’s a wonderful chance for festival‑goers to get up close to the maritime heritage that makes Liberty Bay so special.

Saturday, May 30th — Sunset Cruise aboard the Virginia V

Set sail into golden hour aboard the iconic Virginia V, one of Puget Sound’s most beloved historic steamships. This special sunset cruise is part of the reimagined Liberty Bay Festival and offers guests a rare chance to experience the bay from the deck of a living maritime treasure.

As the sun dips behind the Olympics, you’ll enjoy:

  • Stunning views of Liberty Bay and Poulsbo’s waterfront
  • A one‑of‑a‑kind festival evening on the water

Tickets are limited, and this cruise is expected to fill quickly. It’s the perfect way to cap off a day of celebration on the bay.

She hasn’t been here for years and who knows when she’ll be back…don’t miss the boat!

Cruise with the Curator

Enjoy a 4‑hour storytelling cruise aboard the historic Carlisle II, one of the last Mosquito Fleet vessels still in service. This round‑trip journey from Poulsbo to Bremerton features scenic views, a one‑hour waterfront break, and rich maritime history shared by Curator Judy Driscoll along with longtime locals Patty and Tom Henderson.

Offered by donation; walk‑on only with limited capacity.
