Liberty Bay Festival

May 29th-31st, 2026

Welcome to Liberty Bay Festival

The Liberty Bay Festival is a multi-day waterfront celebration of Poulsbo’s maritime heritage, local arts, and community spirit. This year’s centerpiece is the historic Virginia V steamship—a National Historic Landmark that will be docked at the Poulsbo Marina for public tours, educational programs, and VIP cruises.

The festival will feature live music, artisan vendors, food trucks, interactive exhibits, and family-friendly activities. It is designed to attract both locals and regional visitors, with a strong emphasis on cultural tourism and historical preservation.

If this interests you, there are many ways to get involved, including volunteering, making donations, sponsorship opportunities, and becoming booth vendors. Additionally, we offer ‘Shop for a Cause,’ which allows you to purchase merchandise while helping us raise the funds necessary to host our event.

Thank you for your interest in our event. We look forward to seeing you there.

Highlights

Virginia V

Learn about the Mosquito Fleet of steamers that piled Liberty Bay and Puget Sound from the late 1880’s to the 1950’s. Walk the decks of the Virginia V, a National Historic Vessel and hear about the fleet of over 700 steamers that served the area. See the shining bright steam engine, and feel the wind in your hair as you listen to a local expert talk about the original ports of call all around Liberty Bay.

Come join us for a sunset cruise at sea on the Virginia V, Saturday, May 30th.

Benefiting the Poulsbo Historical Society

Valkyrie

Visit the Valkyrie, a true replica based on the ancient recovered ship ‘Skuldelev 6’, a Norwegian-built Viking ship unearthed after one thousand years from the waters at Roskilde, Denmark.

This 56′ beauty was hand-made by brothers here in Washington as a tribute to their father. With touches of Northwest Native tradidtions done by local indigenous carvers, the Valkyrie is one of a kind – and now homeported here in Poulsbo. Ride along, and maybe even pick up an oar!

Poulsbo Boats

Built right downtown in a basement on Front Street, these boats were designed especially for the waters of Puget Sound. Learn about how they were constructed by Ronald Young, and hear from his grandson and great-granddaughter about building one in their own backyard. See several original Poulsbo Boats and meet their owners.

Codfishing in Alaska

See artifacts from schooners that were homeported in Poulsbo. In Alaskan waters all summer, no radar; no GPS; no satellite navigational tools- but they did have a compass! After months at sea it was time for the long sail back home… no motor, only the wind and the rain all the way back to Liberty Bay.

See one of the actuall Dorys that held the fishermen and their catch; and hear from the son and grand-daughter of the Captain that led many of those expeditions.
